Blocked Kitchen Drains

How to Prevent Blockages in the Kitchen

We use our kitchen sinks often, and the easiest thing to do is just wash all the leftover food and sauces off the dishes. But where do the crumbs, grease and other food particles go? Down the drain.

Follow these tips to avoid blocking your kitchen drains.

  1. Don’t pour grease and fat down the drain as this is the primary cause of drains blocking in kitchen sinks.
  2. Empty grease or fat into a disposable container and disposing of it in the rubbish.
  3. Don’t rinse large food items like crumbs or small pieces of food down the drain
  4. Clean your exterior drain regularly to avoid a build-up of dirt, grease, or food.

Drain Cleaning Services and Drain Camera Inspections

All homeowners encounter slow or clogged sewers and drains at some point. Materials often get stuck in drains and toilets, while grease, minerals, and other debris can build up in your pipes over time. When it comes to slow or clogged lines, there are a number of methods that can be used to fix the problem, but nothing compares to using a pressure drain jetter.

Hydro jetting or water jetting involves the use of a high-pressure hose with a special nozzle to blast water through the lines to clear any blockages or build-up. A drain camera is used to determine the location of the problem, as well as to ensure there are no broken or damaged pipes. Once it is safe to proceed, a water jet of anywhere from 3,000 to 8,000 psi will be used to remove the blockage.

A drain jetting is capable of removing anything from a stubborn residential clog to tree roots in a sewer line. Here are some benefits of drain jetting over traditional clog removal methods such as snaking.

Drain Jetting is Effective

Traditional methods usually work well for a number of clogs, but they are no match for the power of drain jetting. Drain jetting is extremely effective because it fully clears the line, removing all traces of debris and build-up that occurs on the sides of the pipe. Traditional methods like snaking can remove the blockage, but they still leave residue on the walls of the pipe. Over time that residue continues to build, leading to a slow drain or another clog.

It Saves Money
Although using a jetter costs a bit more than snaking or techniques, overall, it will save you money. Why? Because drain jetting clears the entire pipe, eliminating future problems — and future service calls. Drain jetting is also very efficient, often taking less time than traditional methods.

It’s Versatile
Many people think drain jetting is only for commercial jobs, but it’s just as useful for residential plumbing issues. Drain jetting is a versatile procedure and works on big and small jobs. It can handle a home clog that can’t be removed by snaking, such as a sludge and grease build up. It can also handle a much larger job such as tree roots blocking a city sewer line.

It’s Environmentally Friendly
Some might consider the amount of water used in hydro jetting as environmental waste, but it’s not. Compared to chemicals and procedures involved in traditional methods, drain jetting is much more environmentally friendly. It’s even safe for homes and buildings located near water sources such as rivers, ponds, and lakes.

It’s Good Preventative Maintenance

Hydro jetting is a wonderful way to prevent future plumbing problems. Since it thoroughly cleans pipes in addition to unclogging them, you are doing yourself and your home a huge favour. It’s a smart thing to do. In fact, it’s a great procedure to have done when you move into a new home or building. The video inspection alone can point out any potential problems with your pipes, saving you plenty of homeowner headaches.

If you would like to know more about the benefits of Drain jetting and how it can fix your slow drains or clogged pipes, contact us, we are happy to assist you with any of your plumbing needs.

So, what is a Pressure Drain Jetter?

A pressure drain jetter is a long, flexible, high-pressure hose with a jet nozzle on one end. The nozzle typically has a front-firing jet to break apart clogs, and back-firing jets that propel the jetter hose forward into dirty drains and scrub the sides of the pipes. The other end of the pressure jetter has a coupling that attaches to the spray wand or trigger gun attached to the water supply.

Whatever the cause of your blocked drains, let the pressure drain jetter solve your problems.

One call. Problem Solved. It's that easy.
