So make sure as one of you conditions you put to have a home inspection carried and make sure that you follow this plumbing checklist to ensure you are making an informed decision when you sign on the dotted line.
Here are a few things you should check before purchasing your home.
- Check out the taps, the sinks, and the bathtub, look to see if there is dripping from underneath or any of the taps.
- Look out for any cracks in the showers, the sinks, or the toilets they could be the sign of a possible leak.
- Check the grout is in good condition this is usually a major source of leaks which dame walls.
- Check the water pressure in the shower.
- Check the water heater is in good condition, their lifespan is usually between 8 to 12 years if there is rust and it is older than 10 years it may need replacing sooner than you would like.
- Flush the toilet see how they work; do they continue to run? Is water constantly running from the cistern into the bowl?
- Look on the other side of the wall adjacent to showers and baths, if the paint or plaster is bubbling there may be a leak issue quite often where grout is compromised.
- Lastly check if the house is connected to the mains sewer or if you have septic tanks, septic tanks need emptying and this can be a costly exercise.
